I recently travelled through western Texas from Marfa to El Paso. I spent a few days in El Paso, from Spanish, (“the pass”). El Paso stands on the Rio Grande across the Mexico-United States border from Ciudad Juarez.
The journey triggered an impromptu road trip and as I stopped to take pictures and I wished I had someone with me who would have appreciated what my eyes saw. It would have been quite an experience to try to find a place to stay at some of the small, literally roadside-only towns we passed along the way.
From 200+ carriage trains, to not seeing a single soul in sight for over an hour of roadside, not freeway driving, and visualizations of cowboys and Indians’ films, it made driving in the rain so much more interesting.
